Safe and efficient operation of infrastructure facilities

Representation and tracking of processes

The Kassel plant is one of the largest transmission manufacturers in the world and one of the most important component suppliers to the Volkswagen Group. In addition to manual and DSG transmissions, the site also produces electric motors. Exhaust systems and shape-hardened body parts are also produced there. In 2017, around 3.6 million transmissions and 2.9 million exhaust systems came from Kassel.

In addition to component production, Kassel is also home to the Volkswagen Group’s Original Parts & Service (OTC) sales department.

Since 2007, the infrastructure operations at the Kassel plant have been using [sip] as an active steering tool in operational and strategic management. Building on the classic application areas of maintenance & troubleshooting, plant control & inspection, fluid management and energy recording and billing, the powerful tool is now also successfully used for the representation and tracking of processes.

We have already consolidated more than 400 different Excel lists in [sip]. The entire communication process has thus become considerably faster: there are clear rules, quick answers - because there is only ONE way, no more queries, no more lengthy searching in directory structures.

It is orders of magnitude safer than using (Excel-) files to map any to-do lists in [sip]. How quickly a file is deleted if 40 or more people are allowed to write on it. In [sip] it is much easier to implement the necessary rights management - our IT would never be able to do that on a file server.

  • Occupational safety
  • Legal requirements
  • Diagnosis of malfunction accumulations

Methods in operational practice

  • Regulatory dates
    • Occupational safety
    • Review CIP workshop
  • On-site appointments
    • Teamwork, team boards
  • Process control sheet
    • Occupational safety
    • Cost centre management
  • Reporting
    • Maintenance jobs
    • Costs & Consumption
  • Annual development
    • Occupational Safety
    • CIP workshops
    • Failures [quantity completed/opened, age]

The result: safe and efficient operation

Process-safe

All customers receive the required media (e.g. compressed air) in the required quantity and quality at all times. Faults are detected and remedied immediately.

Legally compliant

All systems and work processes comply with legal and operational requirements at all times.

Economical

All processes are operated at all times with the lowest possible expenditure (personnel); the use of operating materials, equipment, energy and services is reduced to the necessary minimum. Waste is detected and eliminated in the long term.
